Newton Music Academy offers chamber music ensembles of string, guitar, and mixed ensembles of all levels and ages.
Ensemble experience is an essential part of music education and we are happy to offer this exciting experience to our students. During 15-week session our students will learn the art of playing in a string ensemble and how to interact with their musical peers.
Through small group instruction, we encourage beginning and continuing students to get excited about learning an instrument. Classes will also provide the opportunity to learn fundamentals of music, to further develop social skills as they play and interact with other young musicians and teachers. At the end of each session students will have an opportunity to perform for their friends, families and guests.
Student-Beginner String Ensemble
This ensemble is for beginner string students who have started to read music. To participate in this ensemble students need to be finishing at least book one of the string method series they are studying. This program is designed to help students learn to listen to each other, follow the conductor, follow dynamics and count while reading and playing beginning string orchestra music. An audition with the instructor is required.
Intermediate and Advance String Ensembles
This ensemble is for continuing string students who have mastered basic technical aspects of playing the instrument and can read music. Audition for intermediate and advance levels includes performing one or two prepared pieces and one scale of applicant’s choice. Sight-reading may be requested by the panel.
Placement and Auditions
Placement for String Ensemble is by audition. Assignments are made by level, not age. After each audition, each student will be placed in the most appropriate group for his/her level.
