Violin, Viola, Cello lessons at Newton Music Academy
We teach individual violin, viola and cello lessons to children and adults. Our students receive weekly lessons and receive a homework after each class.
Our Student’s Achievements
We successfully prepared many of our students for orchestra auditions, college auditions, solo recitals and other venues. NMA violin students got accepted into Young People’s String Orchestra (YPSO), Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO), the New England Conservatory Preparatory Orchestras and performed at Jordon Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, the Tsai Performance Center, Kresge Auditorium at MIT and other venues. Claire Deng
Claire is 11 years old and has been studying violin at NMA for 6 years. She is a concert master and the first stand in the second violin section of the Young People’s String Orchestra (YPSO), a Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO). She has performed at Boston Symphony Hall, the Tsai Performance Center, Kresge Auditorium at MIT, and at St. Mark’s School.
Before she discovered violin, Claire began her music training in a singing class at Newton Music Academy when she was 5 years old. She enjoys horseback riding, climbing trees, track and field, swimming, and hanging out with animals. Read about other NMA students musical achievements.
Lesson Plan
Lesson plans are designed to develop comfortable control of the bow, fluent left hand, correct pitch, expressiveness and technical ease. Correct bow technique is necessary for making a beautiful sound on the violin and it makes sound production easier. We also focus on ear training for developing a correct pitch. Preparing for Orchestra Auditions and Recitals
We prepare and encourage our students to audition for various orchestras and solo performances and share their talent with the community. The results of their musical commitment and talent are often impressive. Read about musical accomplishments of NMA students. All our violin & viola students have several opportunities to perform each year. Our regular recitals are held each May and December.
Our Faculty
We are proud of our team of excellent teachers. While each has his/her own personal style, they are all highly trained professionals, with both teaching and performance experience. Their goal is not only to teach, but also to show each student how to make studying music an enjoyable journey to last a lifetime.
